Why trim audio with ToolBuddy

  • Your recording never leaves the device: decoding, trimming and encoding all run in the browser.
  • Each channel gets its own waveform lane on a time ruler, so silences, breaths and beats are easy to find.
  • The export starts in the source's format and quality, so a WAV stays WAV and a 128 kbps MP3 stays near 128 kbps.
  • Millisecond timecode, zoom and keyboard nudging put the cut exactly where you want it.
  • A live level meter and spectrum show loud or clipping passages before you export.
  • Free, with no account and no watermark, on desktop, phone and tablet.
🎯

What people trim with it

  • Cut a ringtone or notification sound from a track you own.
  • Remove dead air before and after a podcast intro, interview or voice memo.
  • Pull a quote or sound bite from a lecture, meeting or webinar recording.
  • Shorten a music take, sample or loop for a DAW, a game or a video edit.
  • Trim a voice note from your phone before you send it on.
  • Keep just the part of a long recording you need for notes or study.

About Audio Trimmer

Audio TrimmerTrim Audio OnlineMP3 Cutter

Trim audio online without uploading it

Most online audio cutters start by uploading your file to a server. The Audio Trimmer skips that step: the recording is decoded, trimmed and encoded on your own device, inside the browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

That makes it a good fit for recordings you would rather keep to yourself, such as client interviews, unreleased demos, meeting recordings and private voice memos. It also makes it fast: there is no upload queue, so even a large WAV opens as quickly as your device can read it. Files can be up to 500 MB (100 MB on phones and tablets), and there is nothing to install and no account to create.

See every channel before you trim

The preview draws one waveform lane per channel, labelled L and R for stereo or Mono for single-channel files, on a time ruler that adapts as you zoom. Silences show up as flat lines, speech as clusters, and drum hits as sharp peaks, so the right place to cut is usually easy to see.

While the audio plays, a level meter shows how loud each channel is in dBFS, with a peak marker that turns red near 0 dB, the point where audio clips. Frequency bars and a scrolling spectrum show where the energy is, which helps you catch a breath, a click or a burst of noise before it ends up in your clip.

Cut to the millisecond

Drag across the waveform to select the part you want, then refine it. Each edge has a handle you can drag, or move with the arrow keys in 0.1-second steps (1 second with Shift). The [ and ] keys set the start or end at the playhead, and the timecode shows the position to the millisecond.

Zoom in to see individual syllables or beats, and an overview strip appears so you can move around a long file. Play hears only the selection, Loop repeats it while you adjust the edges, and playback speed from 0.5× to 2× lets you listen closely to a tricky edit.

Keep the format and quality you started with

When a file loads, the trimmer sets the export to match it: the same format, a matching bitrate for compressed files, and the same bit depth for WAV and FLAC. A trimmed WAV comes out as WAV, and a 128 kbps MP3 does not quietly become a much larger file.

WAV and FLAC exports are lossless. MP3, M4A, AAC and OGG are re-encoded after the cut, as with any tool that decodes audio, so choose WAV or FLAC if the clip will be edited further, and MP3 or M4A when it is ready to share. M4A, AAC and OGG are offered where your browser provides those encoders.

Trimming on a phone or tablet

The trimmer works in Safari, Chrome and other current mobile browsers. On an iPad the preview and controls sit side by side; on a phone they stack, and the player controls rearrange into full-width rows with larger buttons.

Voice memos and recordings saved on your phone open straight from the file picker, the Trim action stays in reach at the bottom of the screen, and the finished clip downloads to your Files app or Downloads folder.

When another audio tool fits better

The Audio Trimmer keeps one continuous section of one file and does not add fades. To remove a part from the middle, trim the two pieces you want and combine them with the Audio Joiner, or make the cut in the Audio Editor, which also handles fades and effects.

To take out every pause in a recording, use the Silence Remover. To make several clips from one long episode, use the Podcast Clip Maker. To change the format without cutting, use the Audio Converter, and to even out loudness, use the Audio Normalizer.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy decodes, trims and encodes the file in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards it.

Which audio formats can I trim?

Any audio your browser can decode, including MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG/Opus, FLAC and WebM audio, up to 500 MB per file (100 MB on phones and tablets). You can export MP3, WAV and FLAC on every browser, plus M4A, AAC and OGG where the browser provides those encoders.

Does trimming reduce audio quality?

WAV and FLAC exports are lossless. Compressed formats such as MP3 and M4A are re-encoded after the cut, so the trimmer starts from the source's own format and a matching bitrate to keep the result as close to the original as possible. Choose a higher bitrate if you want extra headroom.

How precise can the cut be?

The timecode shows milliseconds. Drag the handles on the waveform, zoom in for detail, move each edge in 0.1-second steps with the arrow keys (1 second with Shift), or set the start and end at the playhead.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

The trimmer keeps one continuous section. To drop a middle part, trim the two pieces you want to keep and combine them with the Audio Joiner, or cut it out in the Audio Editor.

Can I make a ringtone with it?

Yes. Select a short section of a track you own (around 30 seconds suits most phones), export it as MP3 or M4A, and add it in your phone's ringtone settings.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other current mobile browsers. The waveform, handles and player controls adapt to small screens.

Is the audio trimmer free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many files you trim.
