About Podcast Clip Maker

Cut podcast clips without uploading the episode

Most clip makers upload the whole episode to a server before you can start, and some keep it there. ToolBuddy works on your own device: the recording is decoded, cut, levelled and encoded inside the browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

That suits unreleased episodes, client interviews and internal meetings, and it means no upload wait on a long recording, no account and no watermark.

Find the moment by its words

Scrubbing an hour of audio for one quote is slow. Transcribe the recording on your device, then search for a word or phrase: the matching lines are listed with their times. Click a line to set the clip to it, or Shift-click the next lines to extend it.

The speech model is English-only, about 41 MB, downloaded once with your consent and kept for next time. The transcript follows playback, highlighting the line you are hearing.

Every clip on the waveform

Each clip is drawn on the episode's waveform as a numbered band, so you can see what is already cut and where the gaps are. Click a band to select its clip, drag its edges to adjust it, or type an exact start and end.

The player has a level meter, a spectrum, zoom and loop, and the keyboard covers the rest: Space plays, I and O set the start and end at the playhead, and C adds the next clip.

Polish each clip for social posts

A clip cut mid-sentence clicks; a short fade in and out on every clip removes that, and each clip has its own fade lengths. Padding adds up to a second of silence at both ends, so a clip does not start abruptly on a social feed.

Loudness levels each clip to −16 LUFS for podcast apps or −14 LUFS for streaming platforms, with the peak kept under −1 dBFS, so a quiet answer and a loud laugh end up at the same level. Switch the preview to Clip to hear exactly what will be exported.

Export clips, captions and all

Export the selected clip as MP3, WAV or FLAC, or M4A, AAC and OGG where your browser supports them. Export all puts every clip in one ZIP, each named after its title.

When the recording has been transcribed, the ZIP also holds an SRT caption file for every clip, timed from the start of the clip (padding included), ready for a video editor or ToolBuddy's Audiogram Generator.

When another audio tool fits better

To cut a single section out of a file, the Audio Trimmer is quicker. To remove the pauses from a whole episode, use the Silence Remover; to clean up hiss and hum first, use the Noise Remover.

For a full transcript or subtitles of the whole recording, use Audio Transcription or the Auto Subtitle Generator, and to turn a clip into a shareable waveform video, use the Audiogram Generator.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy cuts, levels and encodes the clips in your browser, and the transcript is made on your device too. Nothing is sent to a server.

How many clips can I make?

As many as you like from one recording. Each clip is listed with its start and end, drawn on the waveform as a numbered band, and exported under its own name.

How does Find by words work?

Select Transcribe recording and a small speech model transcribes the audio on your device. Search the transcript, click a line to set the clip to it, or Shift-click another line to extend the clip. The playing line is highlighted as you listen.

Which languages can be transcribed?

The speech model is English-only for now. Clips themselves can be cut from audio in any language.

Do I have to download anything?

Only for Find by words: the English speech model (about 41 MB) is downloaded once, after you agree, and kept on your device. Cutting and exporting clips needs no download.

What does the loudness setting do?

It levels each clip to −16 LUFS (podcast apps) or −14 LUFS (streaming platforms), so clips from quiet and loud parts of a recording play at the same level. The peak never goes above −1 dBFS.

Can I get captions for each clip?

Yes. Once the recording is transcribed, every clip in the ZIP gets an SRT file with its own lines, timed from the start of the clip, and the selected clip has a Captions (SRT) download.

Can it make an audiogram video?

Not in this tool. Export the clip and its captions, then use ToolBuddy's Audiogram Generator to turn them into a waveform video.
