How to use

Check supported input/output details and follow the tool steps before exporting.

01

Select audio files (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or WebM).

02

Pick a preset: Speech, Web, Game or Archive, or set sample rate, channels and bit depth yourself.

03

Choose the output format and, for MP3 and other compressed formats, the bitrate.

04

Optionally aim for a target size in kilobytes; the estimate updates as you change settings.

05

Select Compress audio and compare Original and Result for each file.

06

Download one file, or all of them as a ZIP.

Why compress audio with ToolBuddy

  • Your files never leave the device: decoding, resampling and encoding all run in the browser.
  • Presets describe real profiles: Speech is 22.05 kHz mono, Web 44.1 kHz stereo, Game 48 kHz, Archive 24-bit.
  • Aim for a target size when an upload limit or email attachment cap matters.
  • Each file shows its size before and after, and the panel totals the savings.
  • Compare Original and Result at the same moment in the same player.
  • Free, with no account, no watermark and a ZIP of every result.
๐ŸŽฏ

What people shrink with it

  • Shrink voice recordings to send by email or chat.
  • Get podcast or course audio under an upload limit.
  • Reduce game sound effects and music to keep a build small.
  • Turn large WAV takes into compact MP3s for sharing.
  • Make meeting or lecture recordings easier to store.
  • Prepare audio for a website so pages load faster.

About Audio Compressor

Audio CompressorReduce Audio File SizeCompress MP3 Online

Compress audio without uploading it

Most online compressors upload your audio, process it on a server and send it back, often with daily limits. ToolBuddy compresses on your own device, inside the browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

That suits private recordings, client audio and unreleased work, and it avoids upload queues and file-count limits. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Presets for speech, the web, games and archives

Speech uses 22.05 kHz mono at 16-bit, which keeps voices clear at a fraction of the size. Web uses 44.1 kHz stereo, the standard for music and general sharing. Game uses 48 kHz stereo, the usual rate for game engines and video. Archive uses 48 kHz at 24-bit for masters you want to keep.

Change the sample rate, channels or bit depth yourself and the preset switches to Custom. Reset in the Control Panel header puts everything back to the defaults.

Aim for a target size

When the goal is a number, an email attachment cap or an upload limit, turn on Aim for a target size and enter it in kilobytes. The compressor picks the bitrate to land near it.

The estimate in the Control Panel updates as you change settings, before anything is processed. The final size can differ slightly because every format adds a little overhead.

Batch compression with a clear result

Select as many files as you like. They are listed in the Files card, each with its size before and after compression and the percentage saved, and the Control Panel totals the batch.

Download any file from its row, or all of them as one ZIP. Compression can be cancelled at any time.

Compare before you download

Select a file and the preview plays it in the same player as ToolBuddy's other audio tools, with a waveform per channel, a level meter and a spectrum. After compressing, switch between Original and Result; the player stays at the same moment, so you hear exactly what changed.

Smaller always means less detail. Speech holds up well at low settings; for music, keep 128 kbps or higher, and use Archive or WAV when you will edit the audio again.

When another audio tool fits better

To change only the format without reducing quality, use the Audio Converter. To cut the file shorter first, use the Audio Trimmer or the Silence Remover.

To make a quiet recording louder before compressing it, use the Audio Normalizer, and to combine several clips into one file, use the Audio Joiner.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy compresses the files in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards them.

How does it make files smaller?

By lowering the sample rate, mixing to mono, lowering the bit depth and, for MP3 and other compressed formats, encoding at a lower bitrate. The presets combine these for common jobs.

Which preset should I use?

Speech (22.05 kHz mono) for voice notes, interviews and lectures; Web (44.1 kHz stereo) for music and general sharing; Game (48 kHz) for game and video audio; Archive (48 kHz, 24-bit) when quality matters more than size.

Can I aim for a specific file size?

Yes. Turn on Aim for a target size and enter the size in kilobytes; the bitrate is chosen to land near it. The final size depends on the format's own overhead.

How many files can I compress at once?

As many as you like; each file can be up to 500 MB (100 MB on phones and tablets). Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

Will compressing reduce quality?

Yes, some: smaller files keep less detail. Speech holds up well at low settings; for music, keep 128 kbps or higher. Compare Original and Result before you download.

Which formats can I use?

Any audio your browser can decode, including MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG/Opus, FLAC and WebM audio. Export MP3, WAV and FLAC on every browser, plus M4A, AAC and OGG where the browser provides those encoders.

Is the audio compressor free, and does it work on phones?

Yes to both. There is no account or watermark, and it works in current mobile browsers on iPhone and Android.
