About Audio Format Converter

Convert audio without uploading it

Most online converters upload every file, convert it on a server and make you download the results one by one. ToolBuddy converts on your own device, inside the browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

That suits private recordings and large folders alike. Files can be up to 500 MB each (100 MB on phones and tablets), there is no limit on how many you add, and there is nothing to install.

Whole folders in one batch

Add files, or add a folder and every audio file inside is picked up. Files the browser cannot decode are skipped, so one odd file does not stop the batch.

The batch runs several files in parallel, sized to what your device can handle. The Files card marks each file Pending, Converting, Done or Failed, with its size before and after.

Six formats and the settings that matter

MP3 plays everywhere; WAV is uncompressed and suits editing; FLAC is lossless at a smaller size; M4A and AAC suit Apple devices; OGG suits the web and games. M4A, AAC and OGG appear when your browser provides those encoders.

For MP3 and other compressed formats, choose the bitrate; for WAV and FLAC, choose 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float. One setting applies to the whole batch.

Compare any file

Select a file in the Files card to play it in the preview, with a waveform per channel, a level meter and a spectrum. Once it is converted, switch between Original and Result; the player stays at the same moment.

Only the selected file is loaded into the player, so even a large folder does not fill your device's memory.

Lossless and lossy, explained

Converting to WAV or FLAC keeps every sample of the source. Converting to MP3, M4A, AAC or OGG encodes the audio again and removes some detail; a higher bitrate removes less.

Converting a lossy file such as an MP3 to WAV does not restore quality: the WAV is an exact copy of the MP3's sound, just larger and easier to edit.

When another audio tool fits better

To make files smaller rather than just change the format, use the Audio Compressor, which also lowers the sample rate and channels.

To cut, join or level the audio, use the Audio Trimmer, the Audio Joiner or the Audio Normalizer.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy converts the files in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards them.

Which formats can I convert to?

MP3, WAV and FLAC on every browser, plus M4A, AAC and OGG/Opus where the browser provides those encoders. The output list shows what your browser offers.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Yes. Choose Add folder and every audio file inside is added; files the browser cannot decode are skipped, and the rest convert in one batch.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to WAV or FLAC is lossless. Converting to MP3, M4A, AAC or OGG encodes the audio, so pick a bitrate that suits the use: 128 kbps or higher for music.

Can I convert MP3 to WAV for better quality?

You can convert it, but the WAV keeps exactly the quality of the MP3; detail removed by MP3 encoding cannot be restored.

How large can the files be?

Up to 500 MB per file on computers and 100 MB on phones and tablets; larger files are skipped with a message. There is no limit on the number of files.

How do I download the results?

Download any file from its row, or all converted files together as a ZIP.

Is the audio converter free, and does it work on phones?

Yes to both. There is no account or watermark, and it works in current mobile browsers on iPhone and Android.
