How to use

Check supported input/output details and follow the tool steps before exporting.

01

Select an audio file, or a folder to edit several files one after another.

02

Drag across the waveform to select a range; edges snap to zero crossings so cuts do not click.

03

Cut, copy, paste, silence or trim the selection, or apply an effect from the Effects tab after previewing it.

04

Add markers with M and jump between them with comma and period; undo any step with Cmd or Ctrl+Z.

05

Choose the format, bitrate, channels and bit depth in the Export tab and export the whole file or only the selection.

About Audio Editor

Edit audio without uploading it

Online editors often upload your audio first and process it on a server. ToolBuddy decodes and edits the file on your own device, inside the browser tab, so private recordings, unreleased tracks and client audio never leave it.

There is nothing to install and no account to create. Files can be up to 500 MB on a computer and 100 MB on a phone or tablet.

A waveform editor that shows what it plays

The file opens in the same studio player as ToolBuddy's other audio tools: one waveform lane per channel, a time ruler, zoom with an overview, and a level meter and spectrum while it plays. Drag to select a range, drag its handles to adjust it, or type an exact start and end.

The keyboard covers playback: Space plays, the arrows move the playhead, [ and ] (or I and O) set the selection at the playhead, and L loops it.

Clean cuts, markers and seamless loops

Cut, copy, paste, silence, trim and insert silence work on the selection, and every step can be undone. Selection edges snap to the nearest zero crossing, so a cut does not leave the step in the waveform that is heard as a click.

Press M to drop a marker at the playhead, then comma and period to jump between markers; with Shift, the selection runs to the marker. Seamless loop crossfades the end of the selection into its start, for game music, video beds and sound effects that repeat without a gap.

16 effects, previewed before they are applied

The Effects tab holds gain, fade in and out, normalize, a compressor, a hard limiter, graphic and parametric EQ with a response curve, noise reduction, remove silence, change speed, delay, reverb, distortion, reverse and invert, each with its own named controls, plus presets for the compressor, reverb, delay and graphic EQ.

Preview plays the selection with the effect before anything changes; Apply makes it part of the edit, and Cmd or Ctrl+Z takes it back.

Export exactly what you need

The Export tab sets the format (MP3, WAV and FLAC everywhere, M4A, AAC and OGG where supported), the bitrate, the channel layout (as the source, mono or stereo) and the bit depth, and can export only the selection.

Select a folder to edit several files in turn: each file keeps its own edits while you switch between them. The Tools tab adds a tap tempo, a metronome and a tag reader.

When another audio tool fits better

For a single cut, the Audio Trimmer is quicker; to join several files, use the Audio Joiner. To level loudness to a target, use the Audio Normalizer, and to remove pauses or background noise across a whole file, the Silence Remover and the Noise Remover.

To change only the format, the Audio Converter handles many files at once, and the Audio Compressor makes them smaller.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy edits audio in your browser; nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account or watermark.

Which edits can I make?

Cut, copy, paste, silence, trim to the selection, insert a second of silence, select all, markers and seamless loops, plus 16 effects: gain, fades, normalize, compressor, hard limiter, graphic and parametric EQ, noise reduction, remove silence, change speed, delay, reverb, distortion, reverse and invert.

Can I undo an edit?

Yes. Cmd or Ctrl+Z undoes and Cmd or Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes, for the last 24 steps of each file.

What does snap to zero crossings do?

It moves each selection edge to the nearest point, within 10 ms, where the waveform crosses zero. A cut there does not leave a step in the wave, which is what makes a click. It is on by default and can be turned off.

How do I make a seamless loop?

Select the part you want to repeat and choose Seamless loop. The end of the selection is crossfaded into its start, so it repeats without a click or a gap; the crossfade length is set in the Edit tab.

Can I edit several files?

Select a folder and its audio files are listed in the Control Panel. Switch between them as you go; each file keeps its own edits.

Which formats can I export?

MP3, WAV and FLAC on every browser, and M4A, AAC and OGG where your browser supports them, with the bitrate, channel layout and bit depth you choose. Export the whole file or only the selection.

How large can the file be?

Up to 500 MB on computers and 100 MB on phones and tablets.
