How to use

Check supported input/output details and follow the tool steps before exporting.

01

Select a stereo song (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or WebM, up to 500 MB (100 MB on phones and tablets)).

02

Check the stereo width in the Control Panel; a mono file cannot be separated.

03

Choose Remove vocals for a backing track, or Isolate vocals to keep only the centre.

04

Set the amount, and the low and high limits that protect bass and cymbals.

05

Keep the output that matches your file, or choose MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC or OGG.

06

Select Separate, switch between Original and Result to compare, then download.

Why remove vocals with ToolBuddy

  • Your song never leaves the device: the separation runs in the browser.
  • No account, no credits and no wait for a server queue.
  • One run gives both files: the instrumental and the isolated vocals.
  • Low and high limits keep the kick, bass and cymbals that share the centre.
  • Compare Original and Result at the same moment in the same player.
  • Clear about its limits: it works on centre-panned vocals in a stereo mix.
๐ŸŽฏ

What people make with it

  • Make a karaoke backing track from a song you own.
  • Practise singing or an instrument over a backing without the lead vocal.
  • Isolate a vocal line to learn the melody or lyrics.
  • Create a rough instrumental for a cover or a school project.
  • Hear what is happening in the mix underneath the lead vocal.
  • Make a quick backing for a rehearsal or a performance.

About Vocal Remover

Remove vocals without uploading the song

Many vocal removers upload your song, queue it on a server and limit you with credits or an account. ToolBuddy separates the audio on your own device, inside the browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

There is no queue and no download of a large model, so the result is ready in seconds. Files can be up to 500 MB (100 MB on phones and tablets).

How centre cancellation works

In most stereo mixes the lead vocal sits in the centre: the same sound at the same level in the left and right channels. Instruments are spread to the sides. Removing what the two channels have in common removes the centred vocal and keeps the rest.

Isolate vocals does the opposite and keeps only what the channels share. The Control Panel shows the file's stereo width; a mono file, or a stereo file with identical channels, cannot be separated, and the tool says so.

Settings that protect the mix

Amount, from 0 to 100%, sets how strongly the centre is cancelled. The low limit, from 20 to 500 Hz, leaves the centre alone below it so the kick drum and bass survive; the high limit, from 2 to 16 kHz, leaves the centre alone above it so cymbals and air survive.

The defaults, 100%, 180 Hz and 9 kHz, suit most pop and rock songs. If the vocal remains, widen the band; if the backing sounds thin, narrow it.

What to expect from the result

Centre cancellation gives a usable backing track, not a studio separation. Other centred parts, often the snare and some bass, are reduced too, and instruments panned to one side lose part of their level. Vocal reverb is usually wide, so a faint echo of the vocal often remains.

For cleaner stems, an AI separation model does better, at the cost of a large download or an upload. For karaoke, practice and quick listening, centre cancellation is often all you need.

Compare before and after

The preview uses the same player as ToolBuddy's other audio tools: a waveform lane per channel, a level meter, frequency bars and a spectrum. Switch between Original and Result and the player stays at the same moment, so you hear exactly what changed.

The export starts in your file's own format and quality. WAV and FLAC are lossless; MP3, M4A, AAC and OGG are encoded once when you save.

When another audio tool fits better

The vocal remover separates the centre of a stereo mix. It cannot remove a voice from a mono recording or from background noise; for steady hiss or hum, use the Noise Remover.

To cut the backing track to length, use the Audio Trimmer, and to bring it to a standard loudness, use the Audio Normalizer.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my song uploaded?

No. ToolBuddy separates the audio in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards the file.

How does it remove vocals?

Most lead vocals are mixed in the centre, equally in both stereo channels. The tool removes what the two channels share (centre cancellation) within a frequency band, which removes the centred vocal and keeps the parts panned to the sides.

Is it an AI stem separator?

No. AI separators analyse the song with a trained model and usually do a cleaner job. ToolBuddy uses centre cancellation, which runs instantly in the browser with no download, account or credits, and works well on many mixes.

Why does my file say it cannot be separated?

Centre cancellation needs a genuine stereo track. A mono file, or a stereo file whose two channels are identical, has nothing to separate, and the tool tells you instead of returning silence.

What else changes in the mix?

Anything else in the centre, often bass, kick drum and snare, is reduced too; the low and high limits protect the bass and cymbals. Instruments panned to one side lose some level, and vocal reverb, which is usually wide, often remains.

Can I get the vocals as well?

Yes. Every run gives both stems: download the instrumental and the vocals separately. Isolate vocals makes the vocals the main result; it contains the vocal plus any other centred parts.

Which formats can I use?

Any audio your browser can decode, including MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG/Opus, FLAC and WebM audio, up to 500 MB (100 MB on phones and tablets). Export MP3, WAV and FLAC on every browser, plus M4A, AAC and OGG where the browser provides those encoders.

Is the vocal remover free, and does it work on phones?

Yes to both. There is no account, credits or watermark, and it works in current mobile browsers on iPhone and Android.
