Private, readable captions

  • Runs on your device, so private videos are never uploaded.
  • Generate captions from English speech on your device, or bring your own file.
  • Reads imperfect files: bad cues are skipped and listed by line.
  • The preview shows exactly what the export draws.
  • The sound is copied unchanged.
🎯

Captions for social posts and muted playback

  • Post clips with captions to platforms that do not show subtitle files.
  • Add readable captions to muted autoplay videos.
  • Style the captions made by the Auto Subtitle Generator.
  • Keep captions consistent across a series of videos.

Bring your captions

Choose an SRT or VTT file, such as one from the Auto Subtitle Generator, or generate captions from the video's English speech with an on-device model that is downloaded once. Cues the tool cannot read are skipped and listed with their line numbers, so one typo does not stop the rest.

Every caption is listed in an editor where you can change its text and times, add or remove captions, shift them all by up to 10 seconds, and download the edited SRT or VTT.

Style that reads

Start from a preset such as Classic, Bold pop, Box, Minimal, Neon, or Headline, then choose a font, size, colour, an outline, a shadow or glow, and a box behind each line with its own colour and opacity, placed at the bottom, middle, or top.

Captions can show one to five words at a time with a pop-in animation. Long lines wrap to fit the frame, and the preview draws the captions with the same renderer as the export while the video plays.

Local processing

Every frame is decoded, drawn, and encoded on your device, one at a time, so nothing is uploaded.

The picture is re-encoded because every frame changes; the sound is copied as it is.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video and the caption file are read, drawn, and encoded in your browser, and nothing leaves your device.

Which caption files work?

SRT and WebVTT (.srt and .vtt), including the files the Auto Subtitle Generator exports. Styling inside the file (tags, VTT cue settings) is ignored; the style you choose here applies to every line.

What if my caption file has errors?

Each cue that cannot be read is skipped and listed with its line number and the reason, and every other cue is still used.

Can viewers turn these captions off?

No. Burned-in captions are part of the picture, which is what platforms without caption support need. Keep your SRT or VTT file for players that show soft subtitles.

Why is the video re-encoded?

Every frame is redrawn with the caption on it, so the picture is encoded again. The sound is copied unchanged.

Do long lines wrap?

Yes. Lines wrap at 90% of the frame width, and text without spaces, such as Chinese or Japanese, wraps too.
