Private, lossless video cuts

  • Runs entirely on your device, so private videos are never uploaded.
  • A fast cut copies the video untouched, with no quality loss.
  • A precise cut starts and ends on the exact frame you choose.
  • Keep several parts, cut out the middle, or split into equal parts in one export.
  • Keyboard and typed-time controls for frame-by-frame accuracy.

Cut recordings down to the part you need

  • Cut the dead time off the start and end of a screen recording.

About Video Trimmer

Trim video in the browserPrivate, lossless video cutsCut recordings down to the part you need

Two ways to cut, and the choice is explained

A fast cut copies the compressed video exactly as it is, so nothing is re-encoded and a long file is trimmed in seconds. Because compressed video can only start on a key frame, the cut begins on the nearest key frame at or before your start point, and the timeline marks that point before you export.

A precise cut re-encodes the video track so the first and last frames are exactly the ones you chose. The audio is copied in both modes.

See exactly what you will keep

The timeline shows thumbnails across the whole video, with the part outside your selection dimmed. Playback stops at the end handle, so you watch the clip you are about to export, not the whole file.

Each handle moves one frame with the arrow keys and one second with Shift, and both times can be typed exactly.

Local processing and honest limits

The video is read in place on your device, a piece at a time rather than loaded whole, and the trimmed file is written in the browser. That makes the tool suitable for private recordings and unreleased footage.

Desktop browsers handle files up to 2 GB. Phones and tablets are limited to 500 MB, or 250 MB for a precise cut. If your browser cannot re-encode a codec, only the fast cut is offered, with the reason shown.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and trimmed in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.

What is the difference between a fast cut and a precise cut?

A fast cut copies the video without re-encoding, so quality is untouched and it finishes in seconds, but it has to start on a key frame, the nearest one at or before your start point. A precise cut re-encodes the video so the first and last frames are exactly the ones you picked.

Why does my fast cut start a little earlier than I chose?

Compressed video stores most frames as changes from a key frame, so a copy can only begin on one. The tool shows the real start before you export. Use a precise cut when the first frame matters.

Which formats can I trim?

MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV. The trimmed file keeps your source format, except that a MOV or MKV whose codecs fit MP4 or WebM is saved in that more widely playable format.

Does a precise cut lower the quality?

It re-encodes the video track, so there is a small generational loss. The audio is copied untouched in both modes.

How large a file can I trim?

Up to 2 GB on desktop. On phones and tablets the limit is 500 MB, and 250 MB for a precise cut, because re-encoding needs more memory.
