About Video Converter

Convert video in the browserLossless rewraps, honest re-encodesGet the format the next step needs

Rewrap first, re-encode only when needed

A video file is a container holding a video track and usually an audio track. When the target container can hold those tracks as they are, the converter copies them, which takes seconds and changes nothing in the picture or sound.

When it cannot, for example H.264 video into WebM, that track is re-encoded at high quality and the other is still copied.

Clear about what happens

Every format choice says, before you export, whether the video and audio are copied or re-encoded and into what. Your current format is shown but not offered, since converting to it would change nothing.

Formats your browser cannot write correctly are turned off with the reason, rather than producing a file that will not play.

Local processing and honest limits

The video is read in place on your device, and any re-encoding uses the browser's own encoders, so nothing is uploaded.

Firefox cannot encode AAC audio, so there an MP4 whose audio must be re-encoded carries Opus instead, with a note, and MOV is turned off. Desktop browsers handle files up to 2 GB; phones and tablets up to 250 MB.

FAQ

Common questions.

Have more questions? Reach out via our contact page and we will respond within 24 hours.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and converted in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.

Does converting lose quality?

Only when it has to. When the target format can hold the video's codec, the tool rewraps it without re-encoding, so nothing changes but the container. When it cannot, that track is re-encoded at high quality.

Which formats can I convert to?

MP4, WebM, MOV, and MKV, or just the soundtrack as M4A, Opus, or WAV. Each choice shows, before you export, whether the video and audio are copied or re-encoded. You can also add several videos and convert them all to one format, saved together in a ZIP.

Why is MOV unavailable in my browser?

QuickTime files expect AAC audio, and some browsers, Firefox among them, cannot encode AAC. If your audio would need re-encoding, MOV is turned off and the reason is shown.

Why does my MP4 have Opus audio?

In browsers without an AAC encoder, such as Firefox, MP4 audio that must be re-encoded is written as Opus. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari play it; some older players may not.

How large a file can I convert?

Up to 2 GB on desktop and 250 MB on phones and tablets.
